About Merryn
Bonjour! I'm Merryn, a 2025 graduate in French and English literature from the University of Edinburgh. I have just come to the end of 8 month stint in France where I worked for British Council as a language assistant across three schools in the Aix-Marseille region. I am passionate about language learning and teaching and believe in an immersive approach. Reaching the point of fluency in French is a process that began for me at school studying for GCSEs and then continued through A-levels. I am therefore very keen to use my language skills as well as teaching experience to help you achieve your potential in French and hopefully inspire a real passion for the language (Failing that, I can definitely help get you through the exams!)

In my experience studying French during my degree and time studying and working in France, I am convinced that immersion is the best possible way to learn a language. In this spirit, I propose as close to 100% communication in French during our sessions as possible.
- I have experience working both in schools delivering lessons and privately
- Lesson length typically an hour.
- During lessons we will target the four areas traditionally assessed at GCSE and A-level; Speaking, Listening comprehension, Reading and writing.
- I will aim to reinforce your understanding of the syllabus as well as supplementing this by introducing authentic materials written or spoken in French to support your comprehension.
Whatever grade you are aiming for I am confident that we can get you there - and I will make the process enjoyable and engaging!
