About Steffi

My approach to tutoring will be shaped by my love of literature, and I hope to share this passion in getting students to connect and understand their texts beyond what generic mark schemes will ask for. Due to my interest and A-level qualifications in film and history, I always attack texts with social, cultural and historical understandings that will hopefully foster a deeper engagement between student and text (that examiners also often appreciate!)

Although I always strove for perfection in my essays, which suggests a fastidious, very studied approach to essays on literature, true improvement and consistent top marks come from an enjoyment and a craving for understanding that most students lack. However, by endeavouring in having more academic conversations with tutors such as myself, I hope to grow this passion and curiosity for literature in students, that will only shine through their work. By already seeking out deeper understanding of your texts through a platform like this, you are already going above and beyond what so many GCSE or A- Level students are doing.

About the lesson

I have just completed my A- Levels with A*s in all of my subjects (English literature, history and film studies), therefore I can relate with students and any potential struggles in these essay based subjects. From first- hand, recent experience, I can share my expertise on how to write a high level essay, with transferrable tips that students can use when encountering any question they may face in a GCSE or A-level exam.

Before my A- levels I also achieved grade 9s in English literature, English language, history and religious studies- essay based subjects have always been my academic strong point. I achieved 129/130 marks in English literature GCSE which demonstrates how I always strive for perfection in my essays, and aim to communicate this mindset and technique into students.

I am looking to tutor GCSE or A- level students in 30 minute- 1 hour sessions online.

Due to my recent acceptance into Durham University, I believe I would also be of great help to any students thinking about the minefield that is university applications, alongside English literature tutoring. Particularly for anyone hoping to do the arts or humanities at university, I would be available to offer guidance- I received offers to study English literature at the universities of Durham, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leeds, and had an interview with Cambridge University.

I studied AQA GCSE English literature.The texts I studied at GCSE: 'Macbeth', 'An Inspector Calls', 'Power and Conflict' poetry, 'A Christmas Carol'.

I studied AQA A-level literature B, looking at tragedy and crime. The texts I studied at A- Level: 'Othello', 'Death of a Salesman', Keats' poetry, 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd', 'Atonement', crime poetry (Wilde, Crabbe and Browning), 'The Bloody Chamber', 'Aerial', 'A Taste of Honey'.

I would be willing to read other texts, though for students studying variations of my own specification. With my approach to tutoring being essay based, my tips can be applied to any text, regardless as to whether I have studied it or not.
