About Jonathan
Having achieved 11A*/9s at GCSE and 4A*s at A Level, in addition to consistently receiving First Class marks whilst reading History at Magdalen College, Oxford, I am well positioned to provide relevant and relatable mentoring and tutoring to prospective Oxbridge applicants and school students.
Over the course of my degree, I have studied Medieval, Early Modern and Modern History, increasingly coming to focus on American History and the use of religion in society, as well as the ways in which historians can use it to understand broader trends. Moreover, I have studied papers with a literary focus and predominantly German language source material.
Co-founding the college history society has allowed me to have conversations with high-profile historians, including Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook.

In sessions of between one and two hours, I mimic the style of an Oxbridge tutorial to help students stretch their thinking processes, develop spontaneous arguments, and enhance their writing. In between sessions, I set consolidation and extension activities. This all serves to improve mentees' personal statements, HAT capabilities, and interview technique.
I do not teach from a set corpus of material or texts but seek to follow the mentees' interests because this more closely mimics the flexibility afforded within Oxbridge.
