About Katie
Graduating with a first-class from UCL in Arts and Sciences; Majoring in Science and Engineering I have a diverse knowledge base and experience turning unfamiliar knowledge into results. I am a freelance data analyst and artist when I am not tutoring and bring experience from both areas to my tutoring when applicable. I truly enjoy tutoring mathematics, it has always been my favourite subject and feel that it is very rarely taught well, let alone accessibly. I enjoy the process of figuring out how to help my client learn, and really taking the time to understand their learning style and what difficulties there might be. With maths in particular, there are many ways to learn and understand the same underlying principle. Often the method and approach taught in the classroom doesn't fit for all students, making them feel they are the issue or that they will never 'get' maths, when in fact the issue is more likely to lie with the approach being taught or simply not having enough time and help with the material. I am passionate about mental health and wellness and believe that it must underlie education to ensure sustainable success. Through my experience in GCSE, A-Levels and University I feel I am well placed to give advice and mentoring regarding these academic stages. I started tutoring during my A-levels and was delighted to support my students through their GCSE exams and to see them thrilled with their results, helping one student pushing for a C in maths to an A. I have continued to tutor through university and beyond. My aim with my lessons is to work with the student to come up with a lesson structure that works for them. Sessions can be supporting what the student is learning at school as well as building strong foundations to support future learning. Or I can work to help revise and strengthen areas that might have been covered too quickly in school.

Katie has helped me grasp a handful of statistical concepts and mathematical thinking techniques I was lacking at the start of my PhD.
Her patience in teaching is remarkable, and she naturally adapts the exercises and explanations to cater to my difficulties or experiences. Katie takes the time to know a student and clarify the intentions and aims - having a learning disability, I am particularly impressed by the work achieved thanks to Katie.
Additionally to mathematical thinking, Katie has taught me research techniques for creating a more systematic literature reviews using Excel.
Overall, Katie is an excellent teacher and I am happy to recommend her to anyone who wishes to achieve a higher understanding and better confidence in a wide range of topics.Katie has helped me grasp a handful of statistical concepts and mathematical thinking techniques I was lacking at the start of my PhD.
