About Luca
Achievements: 74.5 (Year 1), 72.4 (Year 2) and 80.4 (Year 3). 3rd Prize at the international Kangaroo competition of mathematics. I also studied abroad at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) during my third year achieving a 3.67 GPA. I have completed the European Baccalaureate with 90.15% or A*A*A*. I enjoy inspiring people for physics and mathematics. To me it is a way of thinking, a tool and approach to understand the workings of the world. GCSE for Physics and Maths. A Levels for Physics, Maths, Statistics, Mechanics, Further Maths.
3+ years experience in tutoring several students through the ages of 11 to 18. In addition, I taught 10+ classes in my final year of school, creating PPT presentations and coming up with problem & solutions to help and prepare my class for the finals (harmonized), as my math professor had a cycling accident. Being the first student to do such a thing my success spread across the school and I was asked to prepare and teach more classes for physics and philosophy as well.
In the case for any science my approach is that one must first inspire. This comes through the understanding of the relevant subject. Mathematics is a language to communicate what is. It describes the world. In order to solve a problem one must use this language, but the most important thing is that one understands (a.) the problem and (b.) the connection between what one does and how one uses mathematics to explain that. You need to first have an idea of the solution in your head before you start writing. There is a sequence of steps one can follow to solve problems: Understand the problem, figure out an idea of how one can solve it, write down what one knows and one looks for (mathematically), create a chain of mathematical steps and operations to reach the solution. Depending on the level of study one is in, there are different ways to write down a problem. For example for younger students it is important to write down "What is given?" and "What am I looking for?". I'm good at finding these small mistakes and insecurities in how students approach problems or treat them in their head. It is vital to learn the fundamental techniques to solve math and once these are learnt solving problems gets as easy as walking along a paved street.
