About Bea

I was born and raised in Gloucestershire and studied as both a Music and Academic scholar. I have recently graduated with a postgraduate degree in English Literature from Durham University where I have been recipient of the Caedmon Ceolfrid Award for two consecutive years. I also received the Dean's Scholarship as one of the highest achieving BA-MA students in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Alongside my studies, two of my great loves are music and performance. My time at school encouraged my passion for the subject and I achieved Grade 8 with Distinction in Voice. I was also lucky to perform in venues such as St Paul's, St George's Windsor, King's College, Cambridge and Merton College, Oxford.

What began as a love of pub quizzes translated into my appearance on 2022/23's University Challenge, representing Durham University. In fact, it went so well that we won the series! I am especially proud that myself and my teammate, Chloe, were the first women to ever win the title for Durham and the second winning team in the show's 60-year history to have an even male/female distribution. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, yoga, making films with my friends and paying far too much attention to my two rescue cats.

Ethos: I am an avid and passionate graduate of English Literature who loves to encourage my students to approach their own studies in a similar vein. I believe that this approach not only helps to achieve their short-term goals but also enhances a greater appreciation of English in all its forms. I cater sessions to the individual student, allowing for their particular needs to be understood and freely discussed in our free consultation session. As such, I am proud to provide supportive sessions focused on both my student's success as well as their overall confidence.

Methodology: For all my students, I create an encouraging and calm environment in which we can work together towards their goals. This can include essay writing skills to giving tips I have found to be useful in my own experience, be it from the academic perspective to promoting a growth mindset. Further services: As a student at one of the top universities for my subject in the country, I have extensive experience in applications to Russell Group Universities and so am able to help with UCAS applications, personal statements, interview preparation and more.

Particulars: I offer a first half hour free. This session serves as a consultation session either with the student themselves or with an accompanying adult - this is specifically the case for my younger students. In this time we will talk about the aims for our sessions, get to know each other and also to gauge any specific approaches required e.g.: extra encouragement, emphasis on focus etc.

Please note, lessons will take place over Zoom or In-person dependent on location.
