About Jack
I am a keen art historian with a special interest in mediaeval architecture, seventeenth-century painting, and eighteenth-century European porcelain. I am a very experienced private tutor, a passionate teacher, and an aspiring headmaster. I absolutely adore teaching and inspiring young people’s academic interest. I am currently completing my PGCE and QTS with a prestigious scholarship from London’s top-rated teacher training provider. Prior to that, I worked as a private tutor for five years. I am able to provide private tuition services on weekday evenings during term time, and on an ad hoc basis during school holidays.
I have an outstanding record of academic achievement, having achieved 10 A* GCSEs; A*AA A Levels in English, History, and Religious Studies; and a First Class degree in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute, in which I attained a first in every module.
I work in a challenging school setting in south London, where I have learned how to develop effective working relationships that motive even the most reluctant students to succeed. In the past, I have also worked as a SEND home-schooling teacher on behalf of the county council, so I have a good deal of expertise in adapting my teaching to the needs of particular students. I am friendly, approachable, hard-working, professional, and strongly committed to all my students’ success.

As a first-class History of Art graduate from the Courtaud Institute, my subject knowledge is broad, extensive, and incisive; and I know how to achieve the best grades in written work.
During my time as a private tutor, I have helped countless clients to achieve the very best results. My approach to teaching is traditional, knowledge-based, rigorous, and well structured. I have been praised for my patience and clarity of explanation. I am particularly adept at teaching effective writing structures aimed at assessment objectives, which ensure that students achieve the best possible results in public exams. I use a variety of evidence-based approaches to maximise knowledge recall.
In all of my lessons, I ensure that the core content is delivered, understood, and remembered. I explicitly teach how to apply this knowledge to written work with writing structures, models, and worked examples; I provide ample practice time; and I provide targeted feedback with clear, actionable steps for improvement.

I have known Jack for several years. He is an experienced tutor, and one who is kind, conscientious and incredibly hard working. He has extensive knowledge across a wide variety of subjects, with particular strength in Art History and English. He knows exactly what examiners are looking for, and therefore what students need to know in order to get the best marks.
Jack tutored 2 of my children for years and I have always been amazed and grateful for his excellence. He is punctual, respectful and is able to explain his teachings in a digestible manner. This allowed my kids to achieve high grades and outperform their peers. I would recommend Jack to anyone and everyone!
I am a colleague of Jack's, being also a teacher. Jack has been providing private tuition to an extremely high standard for five years.
