About Phoebe

The English language is a central part of every day life and an understanding of this is essential, in order to make the most out of life and all of the opportunities it offers. This is what I aim to instil into my tutees.

I started off as a certified bookworm, which led me to study English Literature at A-Level, achieving an A*, providing me with more of an analytical perspective when reading and furthering my intrigue into the pages of any good book. These are skills that I have then carried toward when tackling problems I face in my law degree.

Amongst previously tutoring high-ability A -level students English literature with the hopes of achieving an A*, a goal in which they fulfilled: I have experience in schools as an English tutor to bridge any gaps in knowledge (collaborating with classroom teachers to do this) and both consolidate basic English skills from EAL students and develop those of more advanced students.

About the lesson

Tutoring with me may appeal to you if you are in the depth of studying for your GCSEs, your son or daughter is making the jump from primary to secondary school, or you are somebody who wants to reignite their love for reading, developing your literary skills in the process.

These sessions are designed to follow a loose structure, perhaps around curriculum requirements for example, yet allow flexibility to target the areas you feel less confident in. Unlike a classroom environment, my tutoring sessions enable you to focus solely on the specific areas you need work on; on the goal that you aim to achieve whilst truly enjoying the process of learning itself. The one hour sessions will follow a powerpoint format and, using Zoom and Microsoft TEAMS (whichever suits you best), the whiteboard function can be used to provide physical examples, suitable for both verbal and visual learners.

As your tutor, I am a current 3rd year university student , studying Law. Having completed my GCSEs with two 9s and a distinction in my speaking qualification in English and with three A*s at A level, in English Literature, History and Sociology, I can draw on recent and current experience with the education system. I also have experience as an English tutor in a secondary school, both for lower ability students and stretch-and-challenge students. Through an accessible format of learning, each session aims to enable you to achieve the best possible results, whatever that may be for you.
