I believe in showing students the practical applications of literacy skills to get them interested in developing themselves. Shakespeare is a legend, but how does delving into Romeo and Juliet help your student in their everyday life?
All High School English standards aim to teach your student the building blocks of the most necessary life skills: effective communication, media literacy, and critical thinking.
I have found that the most effective method for getting students to engage in these skills is to use multiple media formats (news articles, videos, short stories) and visual graphic organizers to practice learning standards.
