About Hannah

Hi, I'm Jade! I began my career in the music industry 8 years ago, working in-house as a designer for one of the UK's leading tech-ed startups in music.

I've been a DJ for over nine years, with one year of primary-level teaching experience, and two years of youth and disability work.

I've been an active member of the UK music scene and supportive communities within Manchester and its suburbs for 5 years, experiencing its rich cultural roots and diverse music history.

I have an endless passion for music: experimentation with sound and breaking genre norms. I believe that mixing music opens the door to limitless creative expression, and that is what I want to inspire others to do.

About the lesson

My lessons take place in person with the basic setup you'll require to practise as a beginner (Rekordbox software, earphones, laptop, and a small Pioneer DDJ controller). The lesson will take a laid-back format in my home, with a cup of herbal tea and a huge library of tunes!

Each is typically 2 hours long and suitable for children (8+), teens, and adults. We will begin with some DJ history and theory, then get into the equipment run-through and practice. I will invite you to complete various little homework assignments, such as listening out for music genres in public, and starting your USB music collection.

I worked in-house for Future DJs back in the UK, contributing to the LCME-certified courses in DJ-ing:
- Debut (Grade 1 equivalent)
- Breakthrough (Grade 3 equivalent)
- Artist (Grade 5 equivalent)

I can provide the materials for you to take these exams, tailoring your preferred ratio of practical to theory. I can also teach on a purely practical level to prepare you for playing out in public.

I will encourage you to dig for the music you love and refine your own unique style. My standard teaching methodology follows this rough outline:

- A history and theory breakdown of DJing
- Rekordbox software and track organisation
- Basics of mixing and sound management
- Beatmatching
- Transitions and FX
- Chopping, hot cues, and sampling
- Building a set
