About Ivette
With over five years of experience as a dedicated special education teacher in NYC’s D75 program, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse group of students, each with unique needs and abilities. My passion lies in helping students unlock the power of literacy because I truly believe that reading is both a mirror and a window—it reflects who we are and opens the door to new possibilities. Every child deserves the opportunity to experience this transformative power. I’m currently completing my Master's in Literacy B-6 to deepen my expertise in teaching reading and writing across all age groups, ensuring that I’m always equipped with the latest research and strategies to support my students. My approach combines empathy with evidence-based practices, and I’m committed to fostering a learning environment where every child feels seen, heard, and capable of success.

As a tutor, my approach is centered around the science of reading and a multi-sensory method that supports all types of learners. I believe that every student has a unique way of processing information, and I tailor my instruction to meet their individual needs. Using a combination of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic techniques, I help students engage with the material in multiple ways, ensuring that they grasp key literacy concepts, whether they are learning to read for the first time or building on existing skills.
I emphasize the importance of assessment in guiding instruction. I utilize a variety of tools—ranging from informal observations to formal evaluations and portfolios—to continually assess each student’s strengths and areas for growth. This data helps me design personalized instructional plans that target specific literacy skills, while also taking into account each student's developmental abilities and cultural background.
In my tutoring sessions, I focus on creating a supportive, student-centered environment where the goals of literacy development can be achieved at a pace that’s comfortable for each learner. Whether through case studies, hands-on practice, or research-backed strategies, I ensure that my teaching aligns with the latest research in literacy instruction and is rooted in proven, effective practices. Ultimately, my aim is to empower each student to become a confident, capable reader and writer, ready to succeed in their academic journey.
