About Sarah

I am a university student currently studying Law and Politics, offering maths tutoring alongside my degree. My own academic background in maths includes an A at A-Level, a 9 at GCSE, and an 8 in GCSE Further Maths. Outside of my studies, I have done plenty of childcare work, so I am very used to working with kids and keeping them focused. I also used to run my own small baking business, which taught me how to listen to what clients need and keep things organised and reliable. My main goal is simply to help students who are finding maths a bit tough right now. I know how easily people can lose confidence in the subject when they get stuck, so I try to create a relaxed, patient space where they can ask questions without feeling silly. I really enjoy maths, and I just want to help students get to grips with the basics, build up their confidence, and get the grades they are aiming for.

About the lesson

I try to keep my teaching flexible because every student picks things up differently. Instead of relying on rigid, one-size-fits-all lesson plans, our very first session involves a quick, low-pressure look at where the student is at to see exactly how they learn best. From there, we focus directly on the specific topics they find tricky, which we figure out together through open communication. To keep things varied and engaging, I like to set interactive maths games with easier questions as homework to build up initial confidence, alongside standard worksheets to practise the tougher concepts. A typical lesson is structured to get the absolute most out of our time. We will usually spend the first 20 minutes of each session going over the homework together to clear up mistakes and solidify knowledge from the previous week. The remainder of the session is dedicated to breaking down a new aspect or element of maths, using visual, verbal, or practical methods tailored entirely to what clicks best for the student. I can accommodate whatever lesson length works for your schedule, though an hour to two hours usually gives us the ideal amount of time to cover both the review and the new material properly. I mostly focus on tutoring GCSE Maths and GCSE Further Maths, but I am also fully available to tutor A-Level Maths students. I am based in Liverpool for anything local, but I am also fully set up with a digital workspace to deliver high-quality, interactive online lessons to students anywhere.
