About Chris
I hold a master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in Statistics from the University of Northern Iowa. For more than ten years I have taught college-level Algebra, Statistics, Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Mathematics, and related courses.
For the past thirteen years I have also developed and reviewed math questions for ACT. That work sharpened my understanding of how concepts are assessed, where students commonly struggle, and how to craft clear, fair solutions. I bring those insights to every lesson.
I teach because I love seeing complex ideas “click.” My approach is patient, structured, and goal‑focused: I diagnose strengths and gaps, explain concepts in plain language, model effective problem‑solving strategies, and assign targeted practice. My goal is lasting understanding and confidence, not just short‑term results. I would be glad to help you reach your goals.

I begin by learning your goals, timeline, and current strengths, then build a clear plan to reach them. My teaching balances concept mastery with efficient problem‑solving, using multiple representations and real‑world connections so ideas stick.
A typical lesson:
* Quick check of prior skills and goals for the day
* Clear, step‑by‑step explanation with visual and conceptual support
* Guided practice with immediate feedback and common‑pitfall coaching
* Independent practice to build accuracy and speed
* Brief recap, progress check, and targeted next steps
Instruction is tailored to how you learn best, whether through repetition, proof‑based reasoning, or connecting topics across the course. I also teach error analysis, strategy selection, and smart checking, informed by my experience developing math assessments for ACT.
Best suited for Algebra and above, with particular strengths in Statistics, Precalculus, and Calculus.
