About Gurpreet

Hello, my name is Gurpreet and I am an experienced Year 6 teacher and Head of Maths with over 15 years of primary teaching experience. I have taught across all primary year groups from Reception to Year 6, giving me a strong understanding of the primary curriculum and how children develop their knowledge and skills over time.

I currently teach in Year 6, which means I have up-to-date knowledge of the KS2 curriculum and the expectations for pupils preparing for their SATs. I also have several years of experience tutoring pupils preparing for 11+ entrance exams.

Throughout my teaching career I have supported many pupils in building their confidence, strengthening their understanding and achieving their academic goals. I am patient, supportive and committed to helping each pupil reach their potential. Many of the pupils I work with improve both their confidence and attainment once gaps in understanding are identified and addressed through personalised support.

About the lesson

My lessons are calm, supportive and tailored to each child. I specialise in helping pupils prepare for KS2 SATs and 11+ entrance exams, as well as supporting primary pupils who need to build confidence and strengthen their understanding in maths and English.

My teaching approach focuses on breaking learning down into clear, manageable steps so pupils can build strong foundations and retain their learning long term. I take time to understand each pupil’s strengths, areas for development and individual learning style so that lessons are personalised to their needs.

Lessons typically last around 60 minutes and include explanation, guided practice and independent tasks to consolidate learning.

Before starting regular sessions, I usually begin with a baseline assessment to identify the areas that need the most focus. I then create a structured learning plan so that each lesson targets the skills that will make the greatest difference to a pupil’s progress and confidence.

I can support pupils with:

-KS2 SATs preparation
-11+ entrance exam preparation
-Building confidence in maths and problem solving
-Grammar, punctuation and spelling
-Closing learning gaps from earlier year groups

My aim is not only to help pupils succeed in their SATs or entrance exams, but also to develop the skills and confidence that will support them throughout their education.
