About Cheryl
Hi, I’m a bilingual Chinese tutor with 7 years of experience working with both young students and adult learners.
I specialize in helping those who are more comfortable in English and struggle to fully grasp Chinese both in school or in everyday use. Over the years, I’ve found that many learners aren’t lacking ability. they just haven’t been taught in a way that makes sense to them. My role is to bridge that gap.
My teaching style is clear, structured, and patient. I break down concepts in both English and Mandarin so learners understand what they’re learning before applying it. For students, this means stronger performance in composition, comprehension, and oral exams. For adult learners, this means being able to communicate more naturally and confidently in real-life situations.
Beyond tutoring, I come from a professional background in strategy and communication. This shapes how I teach, focusing less on rote memorization and more on clarity, structure and practical methods that learners can apply independently.

Teaching Methodology
I take a bilingual, structured approach explaining concepts in both English and Mandarin so students fully understand before applying. Lessons are structured to move students away from memorization towards real understanding, so they can express themselves clearly and perform confidently in exams.
Lesson Duration
Typically 60 to 90 minutes per session, depending on the student’s level and focus areas.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7 years of experience tutoring Chinese (Primary to Secondary levels)
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin, with a strong ability to bridge how students think vs how Chinese is taught
- Strong academic foundation in Chinese language and writing
- Professional background in strategy and communication, bringing a clear, structured teaching style
- Track record of working with English-speaking students to improve writing, comprehension, and exam performance
