About Bernadette
I have spent over nine years helping violinists of all ages experience the magic of making music together. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a focus on orchestral strings, specifically the violin. Throughout my career, I have successfully directed string ensembles, led group violin classes, and conducted youth orchestras.
My teaching specializes in chamber music coaching and helping musicians master the art of collaborative playing. We will focus on key skills like section leading, understanding ensemble dynamics, tuning as a group, and building strong team musicianship. I have brought these programs into local schools, community centers, and private chamber groups to make music accessible to everyone.
For instance, I recently coached a community youth string quartet that struggled to stay in sync during tempo changes. We worked on physical cues and active listening exercises so they could feel the beat together without a conductor. At their final concert, they played with beautiful unity and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
I believe that playing with others is one of the most rewarding parts of learning an instrument. My studio is an encouraging space where we focus on collective growth and mutual support. My teaching methodology is highly systematic and focuses on building strong visual to finger coordination for rapid sheet music reading. We will focus on key skills like sight reading for violin, understanding high ledger lines, handling complex rhythms, and navigating multi part scores. This training is extremely valuable for stage performers who must learn show tunes quickly and church musicians preparing weekly services.
I am fully dedicated to helping you refine your reading so you can play fluently under pressure. For example, I recently worked with a violinist playing in a local theater pit orchestra who struggled with fast rhythm changes. We broke the tricky passages down into small visual blocks and practiced shifting exercises to match the notes on the staff.
Within a few weeks, they could read the entire show score easily and played their performance without a single mistake. This structured method helps you bypass the frustration of translating symbols so your fingers move automatically. I will support you at every stage of your progress to ensure you excel and build real confidence on stage.
You will develop the skills to play new pieces instantly and handle any score with complete ease. Together, we will make your violin sing beautifully while taking the stress out of reading sheet music.
