About Katie

I am an enthusiastic and approachable university tutor with 2 years' experience supporting students across Sociology, Criminology, Childhood Studies and Social Research Methods. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their abilities, develop strong academic skills and engage critically with ideas. I create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and achieving their goals.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centred around creating a supportive, engaging and student-focused learning environment. I believe the best learning happens when students feel confident to ask questions, explore ideas and develop their own critical thinking skills.

I tailor each lesson to the individual student's goals, whether that is improving subject knowledge, preparing for assessments, developing academic writing skills, understanding sociological and criminological theories, or strengthening research methods abilities. My teaching approach combines clear explanations, discussion-based learning, practical examples and guided activities to help students build confidence and apply their knowledge effectively.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged for more intensive support such as dissertation planning, research projects or academic writing development.

I have 2 years' experience teaching across Sociology, Criminology, Childhood Studies and Social Research Methods in a university setting, supporting students at different stages of their academic journey. I am currently completing my Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), recognising my commitment to effective teaching and student learning. I have experience supporting students with a range of additional learning needs, including dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and visual impairments. I adapt my teaching approach to ensure lessons are accessible, inclusive and tailored to each student's individual learning style and needs.

My lessons are suitable for A-Level students, undergraduate and masters students and anyone looking to improve their understanding of social sciences, research methods or academic writing. Whether you are preparing for exams, working on assignments, developing research skills or looking to become a more confident academic writer, I will adapt lessons to meet your needs.
