About Elena
Hello! My name is Elena and I am a Licensed Master of Social Work(LMSW) from Connecticut with a strong passion for education. I recently completed my graduate degree in social work and have decided to focus on tutoring as a way to stay connected to the world of academia, which I deeply miss. With eight years of experience in tutoring and teaching, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help my students succeed.
Within my career as a social worker, my target population is kids and families. My background in social work has equipped me with a unique understanding of different learning styles and abilities. I am creative in my teaching methods to ensure that all students, regardless of their level, can benefit from my classes. I have worked with students with ADHD, anxiety, and other mental health challenges, as well as those facing stressful external factors.
Outside of work, I have a rescue dog named Miko, who has been with me for a little over a year.
I am excited to share my knowledge and help my students achieve their academic goals. My commitment to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment is at the core of my tutoring philosophy. Let's work together to reach new heights in your educational journey!

My teaching approach is student-centered, emphasizing interactive and practical learning. Due to my social work background, I am keenly aware of different learning styles and abilities. I can get creative to ensure that students of all levels can benefit from my classes. My techniques include:
1. Active Learning: Encouraging students to engage with the material through discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities.
2. Scaffolded Instruction: Breaking down complex concepts into smaller, manageable parts and gradually increasing the difficulty as the student gains confidence.
3. Formative Assessment: Regular, informal assessments to gauge understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
4. Multimodal Teaching: Incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles to cater to different preferences.
5. Feedback Loop: Providing timely and constructive feedback to help students improve continuously.
A Typical Lesson Plan (Not limited to this format depending on what best fits the student's learning style)
1. Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Brief review of previous material and an overview of the day’s objectives.
2. Introduction (10-15 minutes): Presenting the new topic through a short lecture, video, or interactive discussion.
3. Guided Practice (20-25 minutes): Working through examples together, answering questions, and clarifying doubts.
4. Independent Practice (20-30 minutes): Allowing students to work on exercises or projects independently, with support available as needed.
5. Review and Recap (10 minutes): Summarizing key points, addressing any remaining questions, and previewing the next lesson.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
1. Expertise in Social Work: With a graduate degree in social work, I bring a unique perspective that combines academic knowledge with practical experience.

3. Personalized Approach: Customized lesson plans and teaching strategies tailored to each student’s learning style and needs.
4. Empathy and Patience: Strong interpersonal skills that foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
5. Specialized Support: Experience working with students with ADHD, anxiety, other mental health implications, and those facing stressful external factors.
6. Commitment to Growth: Continuous professional development to stay updated with the latest educational techniques and technologies.
Target Audience for Lessons

By adapting to the specific needs and goals of each student, I aim to provide a comprehensive and enriching educational experience that empowers them to achieve their full potential.
