About Jan

From Luciano Pavarotti to Page & Plant, violinist Janet Sullins has performed with some of the world’s most renowned entertainers. A student of James Waring (Detroit Symphony Orchestra), David Updegraff (Cleveland Institute of Music), & Renata Knific (Western Michigan University), Jan shares her talents on stage, in the orchestra pit, in the recording studio, as well as the teaching studio. Performing across a wide range of genre’s is what motivates Jan to keep creating and pushing new boundaries in her musical career.

Originally from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Jan was Cantor and Violinist at St. Regis Catholic Church and she now is regularly heard at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit playing for weddings and special ceremonies, including, most recently, the celebrations of life for Cardinal Edmund Szoka and hockey legend Gordy Howe.

Jan has performed on stage and in the orchestra pit for opera companies including Michigan Opera Theater and the Lake George Opera Theater, regional orchestras including the Ann Arbor Symphony, and in theaters across the country while on tour with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Music of the Night” starring Broadway legend Colm Wilkinson. She has performed on stage with opera greats such as The Three Tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras) and Il Volo, and she especially loves to perform with musical legends like Johnny Mathis, and rock band legends such as Electric Light Orchestra and Kansas.

As a recording artist, you can hear Jan most recently on the Billboard charting new age Album “Crossroads” by Marc Enfroy, and on Derrick “Doc” Pearson’s album “I Still Do”.

Jan currently resides in Pinckney, Michigan where she continues to perform while managing “Pinckney Studio”, a recording and teaching space.

About the lesson

You need a good instrument. Shar Music Products in Ann Arbor has a good rental program if you're not ready to buy OR if you're going to use a violin smaller than full size. I use the Suzuki books to start as well as the Doflein Violin Method books. It doesn't matter what genre of music you're interested in - a good foundation in technique is the KEY to success when playing the violin.
