About Mikhail

I care about music, I love to teach, and I am happy to see the progress of my students. I am busy doing music myself every day, and I can share with you 25+ years of my experience in studying, performing, and teaching.

I like to see my students' excitement when the magic happens. It can be an understanding of an important concept of playing in a moment of simple finger motion, or when student feels deeply the emotional content of his own music-making. From a smallest detail of a bow-change motion, to a structural complexity of the musical composition; on every step we can have that moment of magic.

I was a Teacher Assistant at the studio of Yuri Gandelsman at MSU from 2009 to 2011. I joined the faculty at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and decided to form my private studio in Lansing area. I also have tried, and have found it quite succesful and efficient to teach online (students with experience or adults).

I do not have much time to teach because of my busy schedule, but I still have few spots available for new students.

I work at Lansing Symphony, Flint Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, Traverse Symphony, West-Michigan Symphony, and perform with other orchestras in United States.

15+ years of professional experience in teaching andperforming orchestra, chamber, and solo music.

About the lesson

Depending on the level of student, we choose a repertoire to start with. I usually go over some basics of playing to introduce student to my expectations of his/her practice sessions outside of the lesson.

All ages and levels, from 5y.o. to adults, students with almost no experience to college students majoring in graduate level performance degrees.

With my wife, who is also a professional viola player we performed a concert of music we transcribed, arranged, or comissioned. We are looking forward to do more of it!
