About Jake

As a teacher, I teach music theory concepts to my students to the songs that they enjoy learning in a fun, inactive way through online lessons.

I love it when I'm teaching a specific music concept and the student has the "lightblub" effect or the "Aha!" moment--where all of a sudden the student understands what I'm talking about. Another thing that I enjoy about teaching music is that when I noticed and the student notices that they are making progress with the song that they're working on. When a student walks away with a smile on their face, I know that I have done my job.

Shortly after a graduated from college, I was looking for work within my field. I happen to stop into a local music store and they said that they were looking for trumpet teachers to teach students. I went through a process of interviews and ended up getting the job.

The education and training I have goes back to when I was in Elementary school. I began playing the trumpet at the age of 10. I continued to play the trumpet all the way through college. Since then, I've taken lessons in piano, guitar, and ukulele. I've taken music theory courses not only in HS but also in college as well. I mjaored in Music Production at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH, graduating with Cum Laude. I've been music teaching at a local music store in Central Mass since 2013. Since that time, I've taught a variety of students ranging from the ages of 5-85 and everything in between. I've taught beginner stuents all the way up to advanced players. While teaching at this music store, I've also taught students on the piano, ukulele, trumpet, and guitar.

About the lesson

The first thing I would do is to see where they are musically. Do they have any prior musical experience? Are they brand new to music? After a few lessons, I would then asses where they are and help them improve their musical ability.

All kinds of students. I worked with beginners who may not know anything about music to students who want to preform classical piano pieces at a local recital. I've taught the ages from 5-85 and everything in between.

The most recent event that I am fond of happened in Decmeber of 2019.

The music store that I work for offers 2 recitals a year to any stuent who wants to partake in the recital. These recitals happen in the middle of June, towards the end of the school year, and as well as in December near the holidays. I have a student that I have been teaching for 6-7 years now. She's currently 11 years old, and she's beginning to learn how to play advanced classical piano pieces. Sometime around September 2018, she began to learn how to play Fur Elise by Beethoven.

By December 2018, my student had learn a very small section fo Fur Elise and performed it in front of a crowd at one of the recitals. My student was very persistent in learning the entire piece of music and eventually wanted to perform the whole thing. By the next recital in June 2019, my student had learned much more of Fur Elise. She performed the new material that she had learned. By December 2019, my student had learned the entire piece of music and performed it at a recital. Everyone who had attened the recital went wild, clapped, and cheered for the piece of music she had accomplished.
