About Kayla
I like to focus on the fundamentals of playing and learning how to work through things that are challenging so that students can assess their own playing and make changes during their own practice time.
Music and teaching are my passions. I love helping students to learn and reach their goals.
I've been teaching lessons of all kinds for the last 8 years. I began as a math, physics, and French tutor and then expanded to teaching private trumpet, French horn, flute, and piano lessons. I have provided masterclasses and coaching for trumpet ensembles, brass ensembles, and brass quintets.
I have a Master degree in trumpet performance from UCLA and I am currently completing my Doctorate in Trumpet performance and Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne.

When working with new students I like to learn about the best way that they learn. I tailor my teaching to best suit the student so that they have the best chance at success.
I have worked with students of all ages. My youngest student was 7 years old when I first started teaching them and I have also worked with adult beginners.
Make sure you find a teacher that you get along well with and who understands your needs as a student. Not every teacher you find as a student is going to be the perfect fit. It is important to talk to the teacher, take some lessons, and figure out which teacher works best with you.
