About Hunt

Award winning squash coach since 1990. I have played at very high competitive levels and won Individual, Intercollegiate and National Team Championships. I consider myself to be an exceptional teacher with good communication skills.

I worked on Wall Street for 7 years and decided that it was an unhealthy environment. I needed to be involved in teaching and improving people's lives. I was a language tutor in college and I was good at squash. When an opportunity opened up to replace the head pro at a major racket club in Washington DC, I got the job and have not regretted my decision!

I was a member of a varsity college squash team that won three US National Team titles in Division 1, College Squash Assn. Was Ranked in the top 5 of US national age groups for 10 years. Attained #12 men's ranking in US SQUASH. Won the National Capital Squash Championship. Multiple first place finishes in local and national team championships. President's Award, National Capital Squash. Served on the Board of National Capital Squash for 23 years. Founding Board Member of SquashEmpower. Avid golfer and court (real) tennis player. Certified Squash Referee with more than 30 years of officiating experience at the world's highest levels.

About the lesson

I teach students not just how to play squash, but HOW TO LEARN and enjoy it. My method is based on four pillars: technique, tactics, fitness and sportsmanship. We cut right to what your game needs. I might even say something about your style that you have never heard before.

(1) There are common mechanical mistakes that players make in ball control, timing, swing and footwork. I can spot the deficiencies quickly and show you how to fix them in terms that are easy to understand and remember.

(2) I relate to a diverse clientele, having taught over 35,000 private, semi-private and group lessons.

(3) You will learn how to coordinate your eyes, hands, feet, situational awareness, physical task memory and the fundamental dos and don'ts of playing a match. I do not simply feed the ball and shout directions at you when you make a mistake unless you learn best that way). Improving will be challenging, positive and fun!

(4) You'll acquire new routines to help you remember what you learned.

(5) Most people are visually oriented. They focus on the ball so much that they inhibit information about what they are doing to play better. I teach you how to synchronize your movements and prioritize how your eyes, hands and feet work. It's all about the METHOD of learning, not just the outcome. It works for elite players as well as beginners and children.

(6) Often what works for a player does not work for another because body types, personalities and learning styles are different. I work with the whole person.

I am a squash and fitness/lifestyle coach of beginners ands juniors to elite players/national champions ages 9 to 80.

Find someone you can relate to who matches your learning style and speed. There are a lot of talented squash professionals who don't know how to teach.

Watching one of my 14 year old students play percussion instruments at a concert that his youth orchestra gave. Also attending productions of the Lion King, Oliver and Macbeth at various schools that some of my students attended.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out:
What is my goal? Do I want to compete or just have fun, get a good workout and beat my regular partner?
