About Karla

Growing up in a third-world country, then moving to the USA in my early teens, I realized not all people have the same opportunities. I met a young woman in high school who was very passionate about helping others and would often ask me many questions about my country. She studied and worked hard to learn Spanish. I never understood why she was so interested in learning about my culture and native tongue. One day I decided to ask her, and her response changed my perspective on everything I knew. She said "By the time I graduate I want to be fluent in Spanish so I can go to underdeveloped countries and teach kids who live in poverty, low-income communities, and just people in general. I want to teach them English while they help me better my Spanish. I want to help them with math homework, or with college applications. Provide them with good education to have a better future." At that moment I remembered being back in my country and not having good pencils and notebooks to write my notes in. I had been blessed to have the opportunity to get an education in the USA, sadly though, not everyone has that. I want to be able to provide help to those who are looking to better their Spanish for whatever reason it may be. Being bilingual in this country has helped me a lot in school, and with jobs, and has set me up for my future. It is never too late to learn a new language.

I did a little bit of teaching to a second-grade class teaching them English in Central America. I have also been a coach for an all-girls running team at my local middle school before. I have also done CPR and first aid classes at local schools. I love teaching Spanish and English.

I am fluent in the Spanish language, I took all Spanish courses in high school, I visit central America once a year, and I volunteered in the Salvadoran red cross for 6 weeks in 2017, 2018, and 2019. I speak mostly Spanish at home with my family.
