About Mariana

I always seek to incorporate what my students like into my lessons. (Books to read and hands-on activities to increase engagement)

I also strive to create a safe environment where every effort and success is celebrated.

I enjoy being a facilitator of knowledge and getting to see my students grow. As a literacy and math tutor with almost three years of experience; I have witnessed my students getting more confident in the content they know, as well as gain more understanding of various topics.

I first started teaching when I became a literacy tutor at Gigi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Achievement Center.

I am a Special Education major at The University of Texas at El Paso. I am currently completing my Student Teaching internship at a local elementary school. I look forward to graduating this December.

I have experience as a literacy and math tutor at Gigi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Achievement Cente. I have tutored for the literacy program for almost three years and 1 1/2 years in the math program.

About the lesson

My process for working with new students involves evaluating their current levels of performance first and incorporating results with information from the parents.

I believe that while data is a great way to measure a student's starting point, parents' or student's input can help me see the big picture. It also helps me directly address those areas that might need extra help.

I have tutored students who have Down Syndrome ages 2-16 for almost three years.

I have also worked with students in an elementary classroom setting during the Fall 2020 semester.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-What content am I currently studying at school?

-Are there assignments/exams coming up?

-Do I know if I learn better in a specific way? (Visual learning/auditory learning)
