About Claudia

I am a current first-year at Carleton College, and I tutored throughout highschool through my school's National Honor Society. I primarily helped middle schoolers and younger high school students. I love working with kids and allowing space for them to figure out answers to problems on their own, while providing support and helpful feedback when necessary. It is so rewarding to see students feel proud of their work and confident in their abilities moving forward. I would be most helpful to younger elementary age students, and am capable of assisting in a variety of subjects at this level. My schedule is open for the next few weeks. For some background on my highschool achievements, I graduated with a GPA average above a 4.0, and took 14 AP classes in various subjects. I also did many extracurriculars, including dancing ballet 5-7 days a week, so I am very good at managing time, and currently my schedule is very flexible!

My only experience is through National Honor Society tutoring and summer school volunteering. I wanted to help kids out and be an accessible resource that they felt comfortable talking to. It was a nice way to give back and I found it so rewarding!

I graduated high school in the top 10% of my class, and am now a student at Carleton College. In highschool I tutored students after school through the National Honor Society program. I tutored middle school students and younger high school students. I work well with kids and have volunteered at summer schools for elementary age kids as well. I took 14 AP classes in highschool while balancing extra curriculars, so I am very good at organizing my time, especially with more free time in these next few weeks. My biggest extracurricular was pre-professional ballet, where I went 5-7 days a week.

First, I would like to get to know the student and let them know that they should feel comfortable and unafraid to make mistakes (This is how we learn and grow)! I would then have them tell me what they find most fun/easy/rewarding in their school work and what they find most challenging/boring. With this information I can target areas that need improvement and focus on learning styles that best fit each individual student.

I have worked with elementary to middle school students.

I would tell the student to find a teacher that will give them the opportunity to try and make mistakes, while encouraging them to find solutions on their own with guidance when necessary. It is important for students to feel confident in their own abilities and learn the skills to allow them to move forward in their material successfully.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should spend a bit of time studying each problem and attempting it, even if they believe that they have no idea how to do it. Once they have given it a shot then they can ask more specific questions to their teacher or get guidance on how to properly approach the problem at hand.
