About Silvia

I am a native speaker from Spain. I have been teaching Spanish at the college and high school levels for over 20 years. It is my passion to help students master the vocabulary and structures necessary to progress towards their foreign language goals, and to develop sociocultural awareness.

My Bachelors degree prepared me to teach Spanish to native Speakers. Like what an English educator would do here, but in Spanish language. I moved to the US to do my graduate work and started teaching as a college teacher assistant. I loved sharing my language and culture, so I decided to get a Masters for teachers to learn more about teaching and learning.

I have been a Spanish teacher and profesor of Spanish for over 20 years. I have a Bachelors degree in Spanish language and literature. My Masters degree is in Spanish for Teachers.

About the lesson

The first thing I would like to know is in what area they need support. It could be something basic or helping with a particular skill (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). By interacting with the student I am usually able to understand the student's needs. Then, I come up with a support plan.

I have worked mainly with college students, but I also have taught at the high school level.

Don’t give up, everyone can attain their goals. It takes time, it requires study and practice.

Something that always makes my day is when students want to learn. When students get excited about a new topic or tense, they show this motivation. I experience this often in my classes. Your personal motivation to learn is one of the important steps to success in second language learning.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What second language skills are more challenging for you? Are you good at others? (I.e: I can understand the language better when I am reading and writing, but I have a hard time speaking)

What personal areas of interest could expand your language skills? (I.e: I love music, I can listen and sing along songs in Spanish. Or, I like art and are interested in knowing more about Spanish artist, etc). This would give you an idea on how to incorporate Spanish into your every day life.
