About James
I'm a recent college graduate, and over the course of my academic experience, I've had a lot of ups and downs. I'm hoping I can help make the world of academia a little more accesable.
I started tutoring in high school since I was an advanced student, and I found I was both good at it and enjoyed it. Tutoring has stayed a side gig for me since.
I have several years of tutoring experience with both neurotypical and neurodivergent students. I also have a Bachlor's of Liberal Arts of English and Scandinavian Studies.

I like to talk to the student for a bit before diving straight into work, so I can get a feel for what the student likes and dislikes along with how they function best. I then start assessing where they are with their education and what gaps might need to be filled.
I have worked with a wide variety of students including; advanced students who love school and learning, struggling students who hate school, neurodiverse students, and students with behavioral issues. As long as the student wants to learn, I'm sure I can help.
I think it's important to find a teacher you can relate to. Literature is an art, and you're not going to like every type of art. It's important to have a teacher that can help you find the type of literature that's going to be able to hold your interest. The books don't make a difference if you're not going to read them, and no one likes suffering through boring books.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about the teacher you've had that you absolutely hate, and think about why(and not just that they were jerks-be specific). The ways they didn't meet your needs will tell you a lot about what you need from your other teachers.

I work with the students and their families on pricing, but as a general bench marker I charge $30 for an hour session with a free half hour assesment for our first session.
