About Simeon

As a fellow student I understand the challenge to commit to learning a skill. For years I have practiced Spanish in school and now, living in the Valley, it is a prime opportunity to expand my use of Spanish and help others who desire to be more proficient in it. I look forward to helping you succeed!

Several years back I began to have opportunities to teach others in a variety of subjects and I realized I have a gift for helping others understand topics. This, combined with my interest in the Spanish language, provides a great platform to teach others.

I took Spanish from middle school through high school and a course of pronunciation skills in college. I live in McAllen, Tx now which exposes me to the language daily.

About the lesson

Upon meeting a new student, I like to assess their current performance so we get an understanding of how to progress. There are a variety of ways to gauge the present level of understanding and once the goal is defined, we can begin moving in that direction.

I have worked with students from medical and science backgrounds mostly and they usually were young adults.

Look for a teacher who has a teacher's heart. They should be patient and able to find out what the student struggles with and how to help them identify a way to move into success. Even if they have to alter their approach multiple times, so be it, because the student matters above all.

Recently, I had the pleasure of being able to help a pacient at the hospital who was under my care. She struggled with some mental health burdens, so I got to prepare a set of questions for her as part of cognitive therapy, and I was able to do it in Spanish since she spoke limited English. It was a joy to be able to help someone and not feel limited by a barrier due to language differences.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
-Does the teacher enjoy the subject?

-How would you help me as the student grow in my skill?

-Are you able to help me lean more on understanding than memorization?
