About Lila

"The total person sings not just the vocal cords" - Esther Broner.

I teach many styles of singing, including lyric singing, musical theater, jazz and pop. But, I personalize my lessons to fit the individual, because not everyone learns the same way, nor are they singing at the same skill level.

I approach the student in a holistic way. Not merely technique, but I teach them how to care for their instruments, how to optimize good health, physically and artistically and how to enrich themselves as artists.

I love to teach and what excites me most is watching my students flourish and discover their voices with new skills and understanding.

My goal is to teach them to eventually teach themselves, to know their instruments. We learn through effective warm-ups, targeted technical exercises and suitable repertoire. I teach my students how to practice, learn a song, audition and how to take care of their instrument and the self for optimum freedom of expression. I enjoy seeing them incorporate these habits into their daily routines.

I enjoy teaching. I've been a professional singer since 1991 and have had a nice career. I've been touring internationally since 2008 and after a few years I decided to begin teaching between tours. I was teaching online in my travels, as well.

I typically start each new student with a consultation to learn why they are taking lessons and what they hope to achieve. It could be anything from simple enjoyment, preparing for auditions, or they are interested in pursuing a career in singing.

I also want to tell them something about myself and what a typical lesson looks like. We set expectations and goals during that first session.

I email them a packet of information which includes  warm up exercises and some anatomy and techniques - all of which fit their skill levels.

We have Q&A and if there is time, we begin a warm up.

I have worked with a range of students from age seven up into the 60's+. I teach those who are considering careers, performing in school and church and those who are studying just for the joy of singing.

Immerse yourself in the music, and it’s okay to make mistakes in the studio as you are learning. Do you perform and want to improve your technique? Did you used to sing when you were younger and would love to start singing again in some capacity? These are great reasons to pick it up again

I organized musicales for my students each summer and it is well attended by friends, neighbors and family. My students who are interested in this love these events because it gives them something to work towards and also gives them an opportunity to sing in front of an audience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals? Pure enjoyment of learning something new? Do you sing in a choir and would like to audition for solos? Do want to sing professionally and need coaching, etc.?
