About Elyse
I believe that anyone who wants to learn to sing can improve their voice. My approach to teaching singers is derived from my education in music, dance, theatre, yoga and visual art. Merging these activites, I design lessons that are dynamic, engaging, unique and fun for my students by using a combination of traditional music pedagogy, voice exercises, body awareness, movement, breathwork, and visualization. Lessons are crafted with attention to the student’s goals, interests and experience. Using the student’s strengths as a starting point, I aim to encourage and challenge them to take risks as we work together to achieve tangible progress toward the student’s goal.

I love helping singers uncover and develop their unique voices. It's a delight to see students be surprised by their own abilities, and I find it rewarding to be a part of their musical growth and discovery.

About the lesson

In the first lesson, I like to start by getting to know my student, his/her goals and background. After answering any questions they may have for me, I ask the student to sing a song of their choosing so I can hear their voice. We discuss basic posture and vocal health, then practice breathing and vocal exercises. After we have covered some foundational elements, we begin applying techniques learned to a song that excites the student.
