About MeMe

As a music educator, her goal has been to provide the same impactful music education to vocalists of all ages. MeMe has taught in various classroom types (i.e. private studio, public schools, summer camps, etc.), inspiring young performers from Atlanta to the Dominican Republic.

Some of her most memorable teaching moments are seeing young vocalists begin to lead their own vocal exploration. Hence, why her motto is “a passion for the process will guide one’s journey” – and a singer’s journey is quite the adventure!

Raised in the city of Inglewood, CA, my access to music education was limited, due to nonexistent music programs in public schools. For that reason, I created my own outlet -- practicing daily to the tunes and technique of legendary artists, such as Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and more; and eventually adding private lessons to her regimen. With hopes of providing others with what she had limited access to, MeMe went on to earn a degree in Music Education from the Berklee College of Music.

About the lesson

When working with a new customer, I typically like to get an idea of what the goals and aspirations of customer are, i.e. hobby, professional aspirations, etc. Another aspect of the process is to make my new customer feel comfortable with singing and exploring their voice in various ways in front of me. This is done by my using various singing exercises, and using repertoire chosen by the student to develop comfort and confidence.

Find someone who is going to appreciate what you already have, while also challenging you. You don't need an instructor to change your voice, you need an instructor to help you develop and cultivate your voice.

Last year, I set out to release a single every quarter of the year. After working with an multi-instrumentalist and music producer, Chase Jackson, I was able to achieve this goal in a matter of three months. I went on to release four incredible singles that did amazingly well on Spotify.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The music industry creates an illusion that most resources are not accessible to you, by pointing you in the direction that you need to signed, "discovered" or under the direction of a middle man/woman in order to go far. But the truth is everything you want to do with your music -- from composing to organizing shows to producing your own music -- it's all out there for you to access.
