About Loretto
Welcome to the wonderfully creative world of sewing! I've been sewing on the same 1946 Singer Featherweight since 1975. With it I've made everything from a ski suit, to christening gowns/rompers, heirloom toys to custom window treatments, home decor to stage costumes. My degree in Fashion Buying and Merchandising provided me with an extensive education in fibers & fabrics, flat pattern design, clothing & textiles, specialty fabrics, tailoring, alterations, and expert techniques. I'd love to share as much of this knowledge as you'd like and help you learn the lifelong creative skill/craft of sewing.
Sewing can be anything from something simple to something magnificent. As you sew more, you learn more. Eventually, there is nothing you cannot make. It's such a fun and gratifying craft - and the enjoyment you will get from your completed project is so fulfilling. I have taught many to sew and watching my students learn and grow more proficient, their confidence building with each project, is one of the greatest joys I get from teaching.
I have a BA in Fashion Buying & Merchandising with extensive coursework in fibers & fabrics, specialty fabrics, clothing construction, flat pattern making, etc. I have been sewing for 45 years, making anything from home decor, window treatments, children's clothing, heirloom toys, alterations, repairs, etc. I love to sew, and would love to share my passion with others eager to learn this lifelong fun and creative skill.

1. Determine student's skill level - beginner, intermediate, advanced
2. Determine student's goals - is there a particular project or are they just wanting to learn general or advanced sewing techniques.
3. Establish student's "stuff" - do they have a machine, iron, tools, patterns, etc. or will we be starting from scratch
4. Determine how many lessons would they like and how often - set up dates and times, location (schedule)
5. If no "stuff" a list will be supplied. If needed, I will accompany my student to make their purchases for a flat "shopper's" fee (fee amount is based on what we will need to be purchasing - a machine and materials or just materials or just notions, etc. - really based on the time it will take)

I had the privilege of having Loretto as a sewing teacher. I started with learning the basics such as how to thread a sewing machine, how to cut out a pattern and pin it to the fabric properly, how to measure the seam allowance , to finally being able to complete sewing projects. I was able to sew a couple of dresses and a pair of shorts on my own. Loretto is kind, patient, and very experienced and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Loretto as a sewing teacher!
