About Mia

Do need an outlet to create awesome designs for fashions or costumes? Look no further!! Universal Sewing Studios LLC allows you to utilize an work area to keep your creative juices flowing.

If you have never used an sewing machine before no worries, I provide fun, encouraging, and no judgment private sewing lessons.

Home economics was removed from our school systems for almost 2 decades. Our children have never had the experience of utilizing a sewing machine in school. I want to help students have an opportunity not only create garments but help them with Math because the math scores in our area are really low. Fractions plays a huge part in our every day life and I want to help students learn fractions while creating garment(s).

My passion has always been becoming a teacher, but I didn't want to be a traditional educator. Since Home economics has been removed from my school system for almost 20 years I felt the need of helping our students have the opportunity to learn how to sew. That's been a tradition in many cultures and families for many generations. It's unfair our students did not have the opportunity to experience the foundation of creating a garment or basic pillow.

I taught at Dyett High School in Washington Park, IL in the After School Matters program based in Chicago. I demonstrated how to take proper body measurements, hand sewing techniques, draping on dress forms and converting fabric to pattern paper. I also taught them how to utilize home sewing machines where the students created garments and had a fashion show to show cast their creations.

About the lesson

Universal Sewing Studios LLC typical process for working with new student(s) are getting to know the student first hand and their aesthetic about sewing. Universal Sewing Studios LLC is a fun atmosphere where student(s) will be able to thread a bobbin, operate a sewing machine, learn different threads, fabrics and machine needles components, last but least read a ruler and learn the concept of fractions.

Teaching private lessons I taught as young as 8 yrs old and now I eager to teach as young as 5 yrs of age. Again, I have taught high school children and we had a ball especially with that fashion show.

The advice I would give to students looking to hire a teacher in there are:

1. Look for a teacher who's willing listen and be patient with you and your creative ideas.

2. Try to meet the teacher and location to see if you vibe or connect with area or class room settings.

3. Ask many questions and concerns if all possible.

4. Make sure teacher don't judge you for being unique based off your culture, gender, race, color, etc.

5. Make sure the teacher meet your expectations.

The most recent invent in fond of is Prom season and graduation. I loved being creative and reviving garments.
