About Holly

Syd's Art Haus focuses on pottery, but we are open to all types of medium to make art. I give people the opportunity to create art how they want. Our studio is bright, inviting and cheerful. People always have fun with us, and can't wait to come back.

I love the fact that I get to meet new people all the time who share the same love of art as I do. When people come into our studio, they are excited to get their hands dirty and have a good time. I get to be creative every day, and share artistic experiences with interesting and amazing people!

I have been working with kids since 1990, and almost always something with art. I graduated from North Park University in Chiacgo, and got a First Grade teaching position. In the summer, I taught summer camps. I have always enjoyed working with kids, so teaching has always been what I have done. We recently moved to Minnesota and I am currently a substitute teacher in the Prior Lake/Savage School District. When I am not substitute teaching, I am working at Syd's Art Haus.

I graduated from North Park University in Chicago, IL with an Elementary Education Degree with an Art minor. I was a first grade teacher, and taught before and after school art classes, as well as summer art camps. I have been working with children for over 20 years.

About the lesson

I discuss with my students what it is they want to get out of the lesson. What kinds of things they are interested in, and what they want to make. I have a large variety of projects for people to choose from. Once we have decided on what we are going to make, I introduce them to all the materials and tools we will be using. Through the process, the student learns terminology and skills while working with these materials.

I have taught kids from Preschool, up to 9th grade. I worked with special needs students for six years, ranging from mild to severe disabilities. I enjoyed teaching art therapy classes during this time.

Find a teacher who sounds like they would be a right "fit" for you. Someone who has experience and has a passion for what they do.

I always enjoy teaching projects for birthday parties, as well as teaching Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops. They learn the basics of pottery, glazing and firing in order to earn their potery badges.

Details

A typical class can cost from $25 to $45 depending on the project. Wheel throwing classes are $45 for one session. If you want to have on-going lessons, I can either drop each instructed session to $35 each, or you could also have the option of purchasing an "Open Studio" package for $120 for ten hours ($12 per hour). However, Open Studio time is not instructed. It is just a time for you to use our studio at your leisure, and have the materials available to you.
