About Nikki

I have previously tutored for professional test prep services (Ivy Prep) and find it immensely gratifying to help high schoolers achieve their college goals. I can be especially helpful to students who combine our tutoring with diligent practice and hard work :). I am a Columbia University grad (CC '19) and learned a wide array of test prep and essay strategies during my own application process.

I am happy to provide my personal SAT/ACT score report to potential clients.

About the lesson

For test prep, it is critical that we first figure out where you are having challenges. Rather than a normal 'diagnostic' test, we will work section-by-section - the student (on their own time) will take 3-4 sections of a given section type. Then, I'll analyze the results so we can pinpoint priority areas.

I prefer to identify and resolve the simplest issues first. Where can we easily access points and see improvement? Once that process is complete, we can turn to more specific questions that may require serious effort.

For essays, I prefer to work with students from the beginning of the process. If we work together to come up with a list of potential essay topics, I have a better understanding of what motivates you.

If you've already started writing, I'll just review what you've written. Either way, I like to guide your writing process by workshopping essays and asking questions. I find that there are very few instances where I can simply 'fix' an essay. An essay without your voice is not a successful one, and it is crucial that you undertake the editing process with my guidance rather than vice versa.

I am willing to discuss rates, but I average about $65/lesson. Additional essay review, outside of lesson time, will depend on how long the essay is and how much review is required.
