About Megan

Reading doesn't have to be painful. The "old fashioned" flash card memorization way of learning can make kids really hate reading. My goal is to not only get your children reading, but for them to ENJOY it!

As a special education teacher in Baltimore City for 6 years, I've had the priviledge of teaching children of varying age and ability how to read. Students with dyslexia, specific learning disabilities, lack of quality instruction, visual processing deficits, and some who just take a little longer to grasp the practice have all been in my classroom.

My service stands out because it offers choice in a way that students feel in control of their learning. In the past I have used games, arts-integration, project based learning, and Leveled Literacy Intervention strategies/programming to teach students between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

Falling in love with school is something I was lucky enough to do at a young age. I knew very early in life that I wanted to be a teacher. One-to-one and/or small group instruction allows me to know my students, use their interests for instruction, plan using their their strengths and needs, and to see their growth regularly. I enjoy watching kids fall in love with reading and learning the same way I did- that's what I enjoy most about the work that I do.

I am a MD Certified Teacher in the areas of: Elementary Education; Special Education 1-8 and 6-Adult; and Reading. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Psychology from Walden University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Studies (Elementary) from The John's Hopkins University.

(concealed information)

My first experience as a teacher was with my younger brother who struggled in school. Watching is Principal this outside of the box to meet his needs was inspiring! In high school I completed the Child Development Career track which required participation in an internship program; I interned with the Pre-school, special education, class and I was hooked! I pursued further education in various veins to gain as much knowledge and experience about children and learning. I gained my teaching certificate through the Baltimore City Teachers Residency Program to officially take the role of a Special Educator, in Baltimore City.

Bachelors of Science from Walden University in Child Development, Minor in Psychology

Master of Science from Johns Hopkins in Elementary Education
