About Lara
I have 8 years teaching experience in public school, I have taught kindergarten, first, fifth, and sixth grades. I am ESL certified K-12 and have a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruciton with a specialty in reading. I have experience with the fifth grade STAAR test and beginning reading.
Reading is my passion. I love to witness students learning to read, enjoying reading and accomplishing their comprehension goals.
I have a Texas certification for teaching in ESL K-12 and a generalist certification in Early Childhood to grade 6. I also hold a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a triple literacy focus and am one test away from my reading specialist certification. I have taught 8 years in the public school system, mostly in Title 1 schools, although last year I taught first grade at an affluent campus. I have attended multiple trainings and staff development courses over the last 6 years in reading and writing, to include a 14 day ABYDOS writing training. I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade reading and writing, and sixth grade language arts.

When I begin working with a new student I will begin by assessing their current reading level and any strengths, weaknesses, and I'll look at their attitude towards reading in general - to include an inventory of what they like to read or where their interests lie. I will meet with parents to determine the educational goals they have for their student and set goals with the student as well.
