About Paris
Through my experience as a tutor, I realized that students need extra compassion and encouragement if they are going to improve. Providing consistent encouragement and understanding will also push the student to harder during the tutoring session and build self-motivation. Once a student is personally invested in their studies, then the real work begins!
To help my students along in their journey, I use my personal, educational, and professional skills. For example, I earned three degrees: History, French (language, literature, and culture), and Black World Studies (history, literature, and cultures of Black/African peoples globally). I also honed my skills in research, french language speaking/writing, and English writing. Lastly, I've written grants to travel to foreign countries to study histories, cultures, and the French language.
Additionally, I've worked closely with multiple students for extended periods, which allowed me to tailor my teaching style to the student's learning styles. I've found that this technique helps students to not only learn but remember their lessons long after they've taken a test or written an essay.
Hopefully, I can work with your student to help them achieve their academic goals too!
I love helping students work through those last remaining moments of confusion before the lightbulb lights up! Everyone needs to learn in their own time, and I'm fulfilled knowing that I can help them along the journey.
I'm new to professional tutoring, but I've been tutoring my niece and nephew since the COVID-19 pandemic forced school districts to shut down.
I have experience working with children, (I was a Big Sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters) specifically elementary school children.
Lastly, I tutored a student for about 5 months, twice a week. I have a very good relationship with the student and his parents. We have worked to together to achieve the student's academic goals for the summer.
Recent/previous experience as a tutor
I have three Bachelor of the Arts degrees:
History
French (Francophone language, history, culture)
Black World Studies (history and cultures of Black/African communities around the world)

1. I introduce myself to the student and parents
2. I ask a few questions to get to know them and their educational needs/goals
3. Decide what subject/area to focus on with the student based on their/their parent's responses
4. Work with the student on problem areas
I've worked with students struggling with reading comprehension, spelling/vocabulary, history, and general writing skills.
Be wary of any tutor that only teaches the basics or discourages you from asking questions! A true teacher continues to learn and is excited when you ask questions that challenge them.
A student that I'd been tutoring who loves math, but who really struggles with reading and writing, received an above-average score on his state test in reading! We'd been working to improve his reading for a while, and he didn't believe that he could improve. Now, he speeds through his reading homework and brags about it!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do I feel comfortable working with this teacher?
What am I struggling with? Reading? Writing? Pronunciation? Math?
Why do I struggle with this subject/topic?
What tools do I need to be able to focus on my studies? Do I need a quiet space? Do I need to listen to music?

Perfect! Paris was very patient with my son, he enjoyed his lessons with her and they helped build his confidence as a reader. We appreciate all the hard work she put in with our family and also how she always went with the flow if we had to cancel or reschedule.
