About Kim
I am a classically-trained pianist with over 20 years of teaching experience with students of all ages.
I have a diverse range of experience as a performer, teacher, and researcher/writer. My varied interests all feed into my passion as a teacher.
I grew up around music education, and have always loved working with people of all ages and background to help improve skill and enjoyment. Learning to play the piano is a long-term investment in a lifetime of musical enjoyment!
I grew up around teaching, as my father taught music privately in our home throughout my childhood. I began teaching while I was in college, and have been teaching ever since!
I have been working as a professional musician since my pre-teen years, with extensive work as an accompanist and repetiteur. My undergraduate work was completed at the University of Washington (BA/BM, 1997), where Istudied piano with Robin McCabe and Craig Sheppard, and accompanying with Lisa Bergman. I then completed my Master of Music in piano performance at Northwestern University, studying piano with Laurence Davis and harpsichord with Stephen Alltop.

I do not use one particular method, but rather take an individualized approach to each student, taking into account age, level, and goals.
A few things that are vital for a student before we can begin: regular access to an instrument (whether acoustic or digital), and the ability to devote time and energy to regular practice.
I have worked with students of all ages, beginners through advanced. I enjoy the opportunity to start out with a new beginner, but many of my students come to me with some previous experience.
