About Sharon

Music was a hobby until I continued further education and understudied with professionals. I am a composer, entertainer, choir director, organist, accompanist, pianist. Currently, I am in the process of creating a media center in my studio.

I have degrees in pedigogy and performance and have been teaching for about 40 years.

About the lesson

I usually meet with the prospective new student(s) and families. For the first few lessons, students learn without method books. General conversations as to personality, expectations so that I can work with the student. A creative approach broadens the spectrum of abilities for each student. Students learn to read music, compose, music theory which is inclusive of chords, scales, etc. Students learn composition and improvisation. All music is taught classical, jazz, pop, new age. My students range from ages 4 through adults and are at all levels, from beginner, intermediate, advanced.

I have worked with students beginning at age 3 to adults. My students have included blind students, ADHD students handicapped students, austic students, professional entertainers. My students range from beginner to advanced students. My students learn chord structure, theory, scales, great musical reading and identification skills.

The most important factor with teaching is harmony of personality; one can be a top-notch instructor, but if the personalities are distant disaster surfaces . It is, also, important to clearly understand expectations and helping students incorporate music in their lives along with other activities. Being flexible with scheduling lessons, regular attendance and practice culminate in student progress and goals.

Many of my students perform regularly in recital which is optional. I've performed for community events and regularly am an organist at local churches. I've accompanied at local schools and for vocalists.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students and/or parents should certainly be apprised of the education and the professionalism of the prospective teacher. Students should be able to ask any questions of the prospective teacher...adequate length of lessons, the type of music he or she would like to learn, technique, references, and what is expected both of the teacher and the student commitment!

My general pricing is between $40 to $50 per hour, and I am paid monthly. Discounts are applied as well.
