About James
I have had great success teaching students from 5-88 how to read and play beginning to intermediate classical and contemporary piano music. I also teach basic jazz/blues improvisation based on variations of a 1-4-5 progression. This course of study involves reading charts and eventually some note reading as well.
I have taught piano off and on for over 40 years but I must admit that this recent stint of almost 4 1/2 years as the most rewarding of all. I am totally invested in the success of my students in their chosen course of study.
I enjoy creating and nurturing excitement and energy towards learning in my students. I try to go beyond technique and what is written to the musical story that they are telling the listener. Students that practice and excel and that get excited about it are the reason I love teaching piano.
