About Hannah

I love getting to know my students and sharing the joys of playing music. I'm a firm believer that music lessons, especially for the younger students, should always be kept fun! I'm a very patient and understanding person, so if we don't get a concept the first time, we'll keep trying it at different angles! My form of teaching is very student focused. I want to know what the student wants to learn, what kind of music they like, and their personality and needs. I'm also very funny and empathetic so I always am able to match my students energy, so as not to either overwhelm them or underwhelm them.

I love getting to know my students and sharing my passion that is creating and performing music. Nothing brings me more joy than to see a student have an A-ha moment after I taught them a musical concept.

I have taught private flute lessons to junior high/elementary students since sophomore year of high school. I would teach 2-3 students at a time at the comfort of my home, or I would drive to them. After graduating high school, I went ahead and attended University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I completed 3 years of my Bachelors of Music Education. I have taken many helpful classes that helps me strategize my teaching that is inclusive and culturally relevant. I plan to continue my BME at the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Fall 2022. I also have been staffed for multiple band camps, including O'Fallon District 90 Junior Band Camp my sophomore, junior, and senior year of high school, as well as at the Decatur Band Camp hosted by the Millikin University School of Music in June 2021.

Interned for local Summer Band Camps.

Getting to know them and where they are at with their flute playing. Figure out what their current goals are in terms of lessons with me. Try to find a connection. Ask about their interests and favorite artists.

Elementary and Middle School band students.

Meet multiple teachers in person and see which one you click with the most. Don't just pick one and settle because a teacher is like a partner you will be with for a long time during your musical journey. It ought to be someone you actually like and relate to.

I'm soon going to be attending a Jacob Collier concert in Chicago May 15th. I also have a flute recital scheduled at SIUe Dunham Hall on June 17th. In August, I plan to attend the National Flute Association Convention in Chicago as well.
