About Becky

I have been teaching for more than 13 years. 9 of those years were in Seattle at Prosser Music Academy where I taught along side 5 other teachers and we co-developed curriculum, put on competitions, and recitals together. I moved back to Ellensburg in 2014, where I majored in Composition and Performance. Jazz Performance is my specialty, but I am also equally educated in Classical studies. I currently perform with the Ellensburg Big Band and I perform with R&B, Funk, and Jazz groups in Seattle and in the NW. I believe I can bring the knowledge and skills to any player who want to play any style.

I enjoy teaching and performing very much. Teaching students and seeing them develop and become musicians is the most rewarding thing I could think of to do.

I actually started teaching very young beginners and my cousins when I was a teenager, and my love for teaching took off from there.

I have a degree in Performance from Central Washington University. I have been teaching for more almost 14 years and I have had success teaching and getting students to an advanced level of playing. I also consistently perform Jazz, I accompany soloists, and I am often hired to be the pianist in musicals so I have much experience with a lot of different styles of music.

About the lesson

I usually meet and greet with students first. If you are an adult student, I ask what your goals are and we make a plan of attack. I generally use a method book, but not always. For new child students, I use Piano Adventures series and we begin learning basics from there. I have tons of music to supplement anything or any style the student might want to try. I use Theory work books. This helps students understand what they are doing while they are working on different concepts. I think Theory is a very important aspect of learning music.

I have worked with young and old students. I have also worked with some ADD and ADHD and some spectrum students as well. My experience isn't extensive, and I would consider those special cases on a case by case basis.

My standard price is $90 per month for once weekly 30min lessons. I recommend all beginners start out with this amount of time. Times can increase to 45min to 1hour in length as the student advances.
