About David

I've been teaching for almost 20 years! I love working with kids and helping them learn to sing, play piano, or how to compose. I'm corfortable with all ages and am flexible to whatever needs are needed.

For me, the greatest part about music is the opportunity to be creative.

Someone approached after hearing me play at a concert and initiated a career of teaching for me.

Doctoral degree from University of Memphis. Nationally certified teacher of piano and certifications in recreational music making.

About the lesson

Meet and greet. Get to know each other and assess strengths/weaknesses - make a plan for learning.

Bilingual (I am fluent in Spanish), kids with exceptional abilities (blind, spectrum disorders), students with no music talent, students with exceptional talent, children (4 - 18), adults (18 - 72).

Listen. Listen. Listen to music as much as you can and as diverse as possible. Take note of what you like and let your teacher know what kind of music is attractive to your ears. Get an instrument.

Georgia Music Teachers Association conference (a conference where a large number of music teachers get together and talk about teaching!)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is really going to motivate you? Most students/parents think that music is just some recreational endeavor, stress free, wih no goals... You need goals and something to work toward (playing in a recital, playing at home for other people, participating in a festival, competing). If there is nothing to work for - the motivation to practice will be extremely difficult, having something to accomplish will reward and make the pathway to playing a music instrument more satisfying.
