About Russ

My background features a variety of genres as well as approaches to create a unique, personalized session with the individual student. I have performed on the Grand Ole Opry and major Christian concert venues, as well as the experience of playing sessions and being a chart writer--along the way picking up tips about both playing piano/keys, singing, production, how to sell a song and write music. I have classical training in both voice ( baritone/bass-subcontra techniques) as well as piano. I listen to various artists and musicians. Flexibility and meeting a student where they are and helping them acheive their goals and beyond. And I am always improving my techniques and growing as a musician & teacher.

Seeing the gifts and abilties of students develop. When a student, "gets it"--that is a huge reward as a teacher. Passing the experiences along to them and seeing results.

I began when I was 15 and then was very serious and taught 35 + students a week for about 3 years. I still give tips and do lessons per request.

Received two vocal Scholarships to Campbellsville University. Was a music and religious studies double major. Had accompianment and classical piano lessons, with various jazz and vocal/coral University ensemble experiece. Traveled full-time with Christian artists, as well as recording solo and group projects and playing studio sessions. And I am patient and concerned.

About the lesson

Initial interview/evaluation. Meet and greet parents or guardian. Go over goals for short term. Making only 2-3 and relating breifly how my process of reading, ear training, exercies, and techniques will help them. As well as finding out their favorite genre and using that to motive them to read music.

Children to mature adults. Professional players wanting tips on techniques and beginners.

I will meet you and be patient, as we reach the goals we both agree on.

I attende a Gaither Vocal Band Concert with my Wife-Shaela. The musicans are very versitile and the singers have unbelievable harmony as well as solo abilties. Many very trained and sing by intervals and reading.
