About Alexander

We believe the student is just as much in charge as the teacher, if not more.

We employ a unique method, pioneered and developed over more than 30 years by jazz pianist and classical composer David Christie.

We use a socratic style of teaching; helping the student discover their own ways of learning. Instead of simply telling them what the answers are, we guide them with questions to make that discovery on their own.

This helps the student quickly build musical confidence. They establish a personal connection to the music, which keeps them engaged, self-motivated, and self-sufficient in their practice.

With our method, the teacher acts like a guide and wayshower for their own personal journey.

I love seeing the joy and suprise that our students experience in their learning journey.

We believe that the student's joy in their practice is the #1 most important factor.

It's always a delight to see the student enjoying both the journey and the destination.

Many piano schools optimize for excellence and perfection over the student's enjoyment. This causes burnout and eventual quitting.

Our students don't have that issue. When things get too boring or too difficult, we always make a change. It's our job as teachers to guide the students to the fulfillment of their musical desires.

I have over 15 years of musical experience, learning a variety of instruments including trombone, flute, guitar, and piano.

I've been learning classical piano for around 7 years, and have taken up learning jazz piano over the last year.

About the lesson

We will have one introductory phone call in which we can introduce ourselves. I would love to know more about your musical experience, goals, and desires. Then, I will explain the unique teaching style we use.

If we both agree it's a good match, we will get you the necessary materials, and get started on lessons!

I specialize in working with adult students, but also enjoy working with children and teenagers.

Make sure your piano teacher is flexible. As you grow as a musician, your goals and dreams will change. So be sure that you are working with someone who is willing to adapt alongside you.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Consider your musical goals. It's okay if they aren't very specific, but think about why you want to learn, what you want to learn, and the pace at which you wish to learn it.
