About Alex

I give piano lessons in the homes of my students. I studied Classical Piano with Vladimir Feldman, and my Master of Arts Degree in Music Education is from Teachers College of Columbia University. I served as an Affiliate Facilitator for SUNY Orange County Community College, and as Executive Director of Rockland Youth Orchestra. I am also a Member of the Committee on Cultural Inclusion for the College Music Society.

I love giving classical piano lessons, and I love working one-on-one with my students ages 5 and up. I have been giving private piano lessons in the homes of my students since June of 2010.

In addition to having a Certificate of Insurance as a Private Educator, I also have a Certificate of Completion from the Leadership Institute of Teachers College at Columbia University.

(concealed information)

I started working with students between the ages of 5 and 17, and then I started working with adults.

I took applied music, piano literature, and master classes with Vladimir Feldman before completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music History from SUNY - The College at New Paltz. I also took courses in Music History through the Evening Division of the Juilliard School of Music. My Master of Arts Degree in Music Education is from Teachers College of Columbia University.

About the lesson

I offer the students a combination free consultation and trial lesson.

I am not auditioning the student.

The student is auditioning me.

I have worked with students who are visual learners, auditory learners, and kinesthetic learners.

I would recommend that the student ask a piano teacher for a printed biography, a printed teaching philosophy, and a listing of the local, state, and national organizations that she or he belongs to. I belong to OCMEA, HCMTA, NYSSMA, NYSMTA, NAFME, MTNA, NGPT, ACM, AMS, and CMS.

I was really excited to be the Executive Director for Rockland Youth Orchestra, or RYO.

I worked with RYO from October of 2014 through February of 2020.

I am also really excited to be a Member of Committee on Cultural Inclusion for the College Music Society, which enables me to now do volunteer service on a national level.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of an instrument do I have?

If it is digital, how many keys does it have, and do the keys have dynamic capabilities?

If your instrument is acoustic, with wood on the outside and an iron casting on the inside, who is my local piano technician?

What kind of styles of music do I wish to learn? Answers include Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, Contemporary, and much more!
