About Dorine

I'm an award winning portrait photographer. I operate a small local studio for portraits, and do on location sessions as well. My specialty is maternity shoots and weddings, but I cover all events.

My first camera was a, Swinger polaroid. All I did was push a button and the picture came out in black & white. I didn't know how to compose a good picture nor how to pose people, I just snapped away like people still do today except on their phones.

Afterwards, I took college course in digital photography, I was tought the basics of good photography and learn how to make a good picture great. That's what I teach, the basic rules of good photography, including the rule of thirds of composition, test all the settings on the camera, comprehend depth of field, play with different exposures, learn ratios of lighting and flattering posing. I'll teach you how to find the 'subject' of your photo that will communicate to viewers. We'll explore black & white photography, and learn why not every picture can be turned into 'black & white'; plus so much more.

First, creating ART! Whether a person, or a landscape, the goal is to make the image become art. Afterward you get to see the smiles of people you captured in print. When you make them feel good they smile and sometimes weep. It's a good feeling, to me, that I captured memories for them, for all time.

I started teaching when I hired my first second shooter to work with me.

Before college I had no training and floundered behind the lenses of a camera. I was very limited in my abilities to take qood pictures so I decided to go the college and take courses on digital photography; from there I broadened my knowledge by taking more courses pertaining to studio work. My training involves more intensive lighting knowledge and posing of people.

About the lesson

I take time to get to know you by talking and having a short conversation of why you like photography, how long have you been taking pictures, what is it you struggle with the most; then I'll explain the process of the lessons and how they'll benefit you feeling more confident behind the lens.
