About Mark

I am passionate for outdoor/nature/scenic photography and videography. My new love is drone videography, but I still spend time with still landscapes. I have been using cameras for over 35 years. I started my business in Asheville, NC and worked for Our State magazine briefly before moving to California.

I have been published in Outdoor Photographer, Practical Photography, Digital Camera and Photo and Our State Magazine.

For the past 6 years, I have sidelined my business while raising my 2 children full time, but now that they are older, I have shifted my focus back to the business.

During my hiatus, I developed a Youtube channel with my kids. We specialized in toy reviews, short story videos, and adventure special effects. You can visit our channel here: (concealed information)

I first started teaching photography at our church in Bakersfield California in order to raise money for missions. Then I took groups out from a local art gallery wher I exhibited my prints. I also did some guide work for a European Photography Workshop company.

Most of my knowledge has been accumulated through on-line tutorials, reading countless books and magazines, and years of experience through trial and error and experimentation. I attended a Muench Workshops seminar for digital printing and processing in 2008.

About the lesson

My first goal with a new student is to identify the skills and knowledge that the student already has, hopefully reducing or eliminating time spent on redundancy. If the student is a relative beginner, then teaching operation of the camera and covering proper exposure may be in order. If, however, the student has a sufficient knowledge of equipment and manual settings, then we can move forward into composition and creative exposure techniques.

I have mostly worked with beginer to intermediate students, but on occasion have shared tips and techniques with more advanced photographers.
